In this lecture, Dr. Antonio Feros will explore the intricate political, cultural and ethnic tensions that were at play in Spain during the Goya’s lifetime and the period in which he produced The Disasters of War and The Follies.
Antonio Feros, is the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of History. A leading scholar of Spain and early modern Europe, Feros is the author of two books, Kingship and Favoritism in the Spain of Philip III, 1598–1621 (2000) and Speaking of Spain: The Evolution of Race and Nation in the Hispanic World (2017), as well as three co-edited volumes and many articles. His latest publication is the co-edited volume, The Iberian Worlds, 1420–1820 (2019). Feros is currently working on a book provisionally entitled Post-War and Reconstruction in Spain, 1939–1969. Feros’ teaching has been recognized with the Penn Arts & Sciences Award for Mentorship of Undergraduate Research and the History Department’s Dunn Award for Distinguished Teaching.
