Performance by Filament Baroque Ensemble
June 17, 2021
Filament baroque ensemble featuring Evan Few (violin) Elena Smith (viola da gamba) and John Walthausen (harpsichord) virtual performance of period chamber music followed by Q & A.
In Music for an Inner World, Filament presents a program inspired by the cosmopolitan musical life of the Netherlands during the 17th century. Demonstrating the boundless possibilities of an ensemble of violin, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, this concert will pair musical works published and collected in Amsterdam with pieces from baroque Germany and Scandinavia, evoking in sound the tender, witty, and richly colored world of Dutch painting.
Filament is a chamber ensemble, formed in 2019, of Philadelphia-based period-instrument soloists. Comprising a core trio of violin, viola da gamba, and keyboards, its respective founding members are Evan Few, Elena Smith, and John Walthausen. As an ensemble, they share their collective passion for the rich trio repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries with audiences in Philadelphia, the Delaware River Valley, and beyond.
Filament has performed on Philadelphia’s Main Line Early Music Series, the PhilaLandmarks’ Early Music Series, and Gotham Early Music Scene’s Midtown Concert Series. Most recently, they were selected by Early Music America to take part in the 2021 Emerging Artists Showcase. Future projects include a collaboration with soprano Rebecca Myers in the fall of 2021.
