Mary Tasillo
Common Press Studio Manager
Mary directs programming and strategic initiatives for the Common Press, in partnership with Penn Libraries, PennDesign, and Kelly Writers House. She also fosters partnerships and collaborations on campus, in Philadelphia, and throughout the international communities of book artists and the letterpress.
In addition to letterpress, Mary has experience with book arts, papermaking, and other printmaking techniques. She has long been active in the letterpress, printmaking, and book arts communities as an educator and practitioner, having taught numerous classes and workshops for Naropa University (Boulder, CO), PennDesign, Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Women’s Studio Workshop, and the University of the Arts. She is also the cofounder of The Soapbox, an independent publishing center and zine library in Southwest Philadelphia, where she has taught classes and organized numerous community events.
Her extensive background in book arts, studio management, and letterpress began when she apprenticed with Quercus Press in Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts.
