Forever Furness Tour

October 22, 2024 – October 22, 2025

Explore the iconic Anne and Jerome Fisher Fine Arts Library, led by William Whitaker, Curator & Collection Manager of the University of Pennsylvania Architectural Archives, Mia D’Avanza, Director of the Fisher Fine Arts Library, and Emily Zimmerman, Director of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs of the Arthur Ross Gallery.

An architectural treasure designed by renowned Philadelphia architect Frank Furness, this venetian gothic landmark is testament to the beauty and grandeur of 19th-century architecture. Furness’ singular vision for the University of Pennsylvania’s original library is as powerful today as it was at the time of its dedication in 1891. Learn about the rich and storied history of this beloved building at the heart of campus, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985.

The tour takes its name “Forever Furness” from a campaign to restore the Anne and Jerome Fisher Fine Arts Library, then known as the Furness library.

The audio tour consists of 7 stops, lasts approximately 25 minutes, and begins from the lobby of the Fisher Fine Arts Library. Please use headphones while in the library’s reading room for the tour.
