About the exhibition. . . Throughout the nineteenth century, artists strived to broaden the audience for art by incorporating new media, new venues, and new voices. The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts bore witness to such expansion; the works in this exhibition, assembled by students of a curatorial seminar at Penn, reveal the institution’s multifaceted influence.
