Art Reset: Spiritscapes: Place and Spirit in Citizen Salon

Friday, January 25, 2019 1.30pm–2.30pm

1:30 – 2:30 PM ART RESET Spiritscapes: Place and Spirit in Citizen Salon Join graduate student Tamir Williams and Valentina Soto Illanes for a conversation about the thematic intersection of “place” and “spirit” in our current exhibition, Citizen Salon. Through the work of Haitian artists Dieudonne Cedor and Arnold Lafontant, and Ecuadorian artist Humberto Chugchilan, we will explore how the presence of spiritual and (folk) religious elements within their landscape paintings work to transform these places into imagined realms or mythical scenes. Tamir Williams is a doctoral student in History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania. Valentina Soto Illanes is an MFA student in the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate Fine Arts program. Free coffee will be provided. The Arthur Ross Gallery is located in the Fisher Fine Arts Library Building at 220 S. 34th Street.
