The concept of our project is the disturbance of peace. We focused our sounds around how a quiet place, such as a cemetery, could be affected  by being surrounded by an urban environment, such as the city of Philadelphia. We first decided to base our project at the cemetery when we agreed that we wanted our sounds to be centered on nature rather than an urban environment. But as we walked through the cemetery, we realized that the urban environment surrounding the cemetery was as important to the ambiance as the actual cemetery. Our first sound was the sound of walking through the cemetery. Walking may seem like a quiet activity, but when presented with the contrast between silence and footsteps, we realized how loud it can be.

After we finished recording our footsteps, we came across a deer. We were shocked at how close we were able to get without it running away; the deer almost seemed too comfortable with human interaction. Our picture of the deer looking at the camera was the perfect image for our project, as the deer just seemed slightly confused as to what we were doing in its home. We tried to capture the feeling we believe the deer expressed in the background music we recorded on a keyboard. The rest of our sounds were centered on the noises that infiltrate the cemetery from the surrounding environment. We used the sound of leaves being stepped on leading into vehicles passing by to continuously increase the intensity throughout the soundscape. We felt these sounds relate to how the expansion of urban environments is disrupting the solitude of nature albeit a manmade place of solace.
