The elements of this landscape / soundscape were produced after the spring
semester had finished, so I always feel a bit sad—not because it is over;
but because this beauty exists everywhere, and I feel like I don't get to see
it when I'm in school. I have a touch of wanderlust.
I took this picture during the sunrise of the final day of a three-day hike. These rocks seem so ancient, yet so dynamic at the same time. To me, they look like a pack of elephant seals hanging out on the cliffs of Big Sur.
The beginning of the piece is the exact sound that I heard standing here. I extracted the audio from a video that I took. I immediately wrote the piano and string parts when I came home with no intention at all; just a few hours of mindlessless. The song manifests the entire landscape that I witnessed those three days, and further expresses how I felt while I was there.
